Bernard Foundation gives $500,000 for Home for Cats
Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic received a $500,000
grant last month from the Joanie, Jeanne and Howard Bernard Foundation.
This money will be used to build the Joanie Bernard Home for Cats, which
will house the shelter portion of OAR. Joanie, who died days after the
gift was made, cared deeply about the welfare of the cats of Cincinnati,
and we're honored that she and her foundation board chose OAR to
receive such a generous grant.
The home will be constructed on our existing property near the current
building, which will continue to house the spay/neuter clinic and Feral
Cat Resource Center. The OAR board welcomes input from volunteers and
staff about the design of the new building as well as redesign of the
current space. Send ideas to director@ohioalleycat.org.
Welcome our new clinic director
Devon Smith joins Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic as
its new clinic director. She succeeds Elaine Sloan Baker, who remains
with OAR as a vet tech.
Devon grew up in northern Vermont and comes here from South Bend,
Ind., where since 2009 she was executive director of Michiana Feral Cat
Initiative, a TNR group serving counties in Indiana and Michigan. She
has worked in animal shelters in South Bend and in Boston and says she
is excited to join a team that is addressing the root causes of pet
overpopulation and euthanasia. Devon is completing a doctorate in
theology from Notre Dame.
Welcome, Devon. And, Elaine, thank you for leading the clinic as it opened full-time.

Foster homes still needed
We still need foster homes for kittens. Adoptions are going well, but
we can save more kittens if we have more people to keep them for up to a
month until they are ready to be fixed. Contact lizjohnson0@gmail.com.
Adoption Spotlight: Hey There Delilah!
June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. Delilah is a 2-year-old sweetie.
She's just waiting to be discovered. Her headshots don't do her justice
because her real beauty is in who she is. She's playful, petite, polite,
patient, never pushy, and always positive. She likes to give licks in
the hope that you will notice how much love she has to give. She's a
model cat who would love a chance to be center-stage in your forever
home. Please give her the big break that she has been waiting for.
- You can provide a forever home, too. See photos and descriptions of our available cats and kittens, then fill out an adoption questionnaire.
- Meet our residents during OAR's open hours noon-2 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
- We also regularly have cats at the Oakely PetSmart, 3401 Alamo Ave., with OAR volunteers there from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. the first Saturday of each month.
